Some Of The Famous Wiccan Holidays

Almost all the holidays that modern day people would actually celebrate would come from the traditional holidays in the wiccan culture. The wiccans really religiously practice each holiday because they believe that it is a tribute to the power of nature wherein they would also receive powers. Now just so one would know, these are some of the most crucial wiccan holidays in history.

Probably the most famous of all these dates would be none other than the Feast of Samhain or more commonly known in the modern world as Halloween. Although most people celebrate Halloween with kids dressing up as ghosts, its origin actually stems out from a witch tradition. It is usually celebrated during October 31 and November 1 and is known to be the time where the dead are able to visit the world of the living.

Another holiday that the wiccans are known for celebrating is Yule which is celebrated right before the modern day Christmas. This time is known as the Solstice Night and is said to be the longest night in the entire year. This date is celebrated because it is known to be the rebirth of the sun and witches would usually pay tribute to the Sun god.

Now Easter Day is another widely celebrated tradition that many kids would celebrate as well. However, according to the Druidic lore, this holiday actually came from Ostara which is the time of fertility and is on the month of March 21. The Easter bunny actually came from the symbol of the Goddess of fertility which was actually a rabbit that was holding an egg.

Now Beltane, which happens on the start of summer, is yet another crucial event because it is the day wherein the Sun God, Bel, would receive his coronation. Now Beltane literally translates to the Fire of Bel which means that it is during this time that the Sun God has received his powers and is bestowing it to the earth. The result of this is the blooming and blossoming of the flora on earth.

A very interesting holiday that the witches would often celebrate would of course be the Mabon which is a time of feasting. This event would happen on the 21st of every September and would mark the Autumn Equinox. It is a time to pay respects and dues to the meeting of the day and the night wherein both will have equal time during a day.

Now one very important tradition or ritual that is practiced would be Litha during the midsummer. If one would observe, it is during the midsummer that the sun is at its peak when it comes to heat. Now this ritual which happens on June 21, is the time wherein the Sun God is supposedly at his most powerful and the wiccans are paying tribute to his power.

So basically, those are some important dates in Wiccan tradition. As one can see, many holidays have came from the witch calendar and have been commercialized over the years. If one would dig deeper into each holiday, he will actually find that most of them would have a Pagan origin.
