Why An NJ Summer Riding Camp Might Be A Perfect Fit For Your Little Girl

By Amanda Hill

For some reason girls and horses just go together. The combination may seem strange to some, but there is a long tradition of little girls and the love affairs they have with these huge animals. If you have a daughter who cuts out pictures of Derby winners and tapes them to her bedroom walls, you should consider enrolling her in a NJ summer riding camp. You will probably notice a big difference in her after this summer experience.

It is not usual for young girls to struggle with self-esteem and confidence issues. Horse camps are a great way to help them in these areas. Controlling an animal that weighs half a ton or more, using only her body and encouraging words, will quickly give your youngster a feeling of her own power and make her feel more in control of the world around her. Horse camps are places where girls work together in a non-competitive way to reach their individual goals.

Not all kids are outgoing or make friends easily. Riding camps can help shy youngsters connect with their peers who share their passion for this sport. It is easy to find things to discuss throughout days spent together learning the ins and out of riding and caring for horses and equipment.

Instructors are mindful of the dangers inherent in pairing small children with animals that weigh half a ton. Safety is a number one priority. All the girls are taught how to handle the animals safely and how to avoid mistakes that can have serious consequences. Girls work together to help and remind one another of the lessons learned.

It can be difficult to get kids away from their video games, smart phones and computer screens. Enrolling your child in a camp is a great way to force her out of doors and into communication with others. Girls are thrown together day in and day out and placed in situations where they have to interact with one another. It is not unusual for camps to ban all electronic devices except for a phone girls are allowed to use to take pictures.

There is plenty of fresh air and physical exercise involved in riding camps. It might look like the horse is doing all the work. This is a real workout opportunity for the girls however.

Riders have to use their whole bodies to control their horses and balance on their backs at the same time. They get great aerobics workouts hauling water buckets, lifting hay bales, and shoveling manure. Campers care for the horses like they owned them.

Horseback riding is fun. It is a way for little girls who tend to be too serious for their age to experience the sheer joy that riding can give. Kids enjoy each other as well. Instructors plan riding games and other activities that give kids a chance to play while they are improving their equestrian abilities. When camp is over your child will have new found confidence as well as some new best friends.
