When people think of wine tours and tasting in the United States, they often think of Sonoma first and foremost. And while this very gorgeous valley in California is a fantastic destination, people on the east coast don't always have time or money to travel that far. If that is the case, then consider wine tours Dahlonega GA the next time you want some vino without a long travel.

Northern Georgia has some gorgeous foothills and mountains, and the climate in the area as a result of the terrain is perfect for growing grapes. The soil is quite fertile, and as a result, some six wineries have opened their doors for tastings and tours among other offerings. People in the area love it, and it is quickly becoming a huge destination for wine lovers all over the country.

Cavender Creek, located at 3610 Cavender Creek Road, is the newest kid on the winery block, but don't let their youth fool you. They produce 1,400 cases per year on average, each of which is carefully handcrafted for quality instead of quantity. You can find Petit Manseng, American Norton and cabernet sauvignon among other varietals.

If you want views, try out the Kaya Windery & Vineyard, which used to be called the Blackstock Vineyards. This destination is the largest vineyard in the area, and has facilities fit for a 300 person wedding or other event. You can often find a live band playing on 2,000 square foot covered patio. If you prefer indoors, the tasting room has 12 feet tall windows that give you the best views in the entire area of the local foothills as you sip on new vintages.

At 501 Hightower Church Road is the Montaluce Winery & Estates, which make you feel as if you have been swept away to Italy instead of Georgia. The reason is that great care has been taken to make the entire place, including the 25,000 square foot even facility, feel like a Tuscan villa.

If you value food as much as you do wine, try the Wolf Mountain Vineyards & Winery, which features the cuisines of the south as well as Europe. The dishes they serve at this winery, located at 180 Wolf Mountain Trail, pairs their own wines with the meals for a satisfying and delicious experience. They also feature their famous Champenoise sparkling wine and will proudly and humbly tell you about the over 150 medals they have won in local and nationwide competitions.

Three Sisters Vineyards & Winery at 439 Vineyard Way, features a rock wall patio and crush pad deck for relaxing with a glass of their homemade vintages. They produce up to 4,000 cases of each vintage while still hosting weddings and engagement dinners on their sprawling 184 acre estate. The tasting room is a must-try destination on any tour of the area, especially since the were once voted as the Best Winery in the South. This is the oldest vineyard in the region, so you get a real sense of time and tradition there.

If you like a wide variety of wines to try, then you will definitely want to schedule plenty of time to visit Frogtown Cellars, located at 700 Ridge Point Drive. They have an impressive tri-level flow winery, a must considering that they pack 25 grape varieties into just 57 acres of land. These many grapes have turned into wines that have won more medals than any other locally.
