Monasteries, cathedrals, and places of worships have shared the love for colorful windows since the Middle Ages. Stained glass has been used in the architecture of holy places for centuries to either represent religious figures or just brighten up a building. The Grossmunster is a Romanesque Protestant church building in Zurich, Switzerland. The church was completed during the twelfth century and is one of the four biggest churches in Switzerland. The design consists of very small aperture, decorated in colorful, stone-shaped glasses. The addition of this tainted material was included in the twentieth century and was designed by the Pop Artists Sigmar Polke.

The use of these glasses in the Nasir al-Mulk Mosque in Shiraz, Iran is an example of different architectural methods in varying religious and spiritual buildings. This building, also called the Pink Mosque, has its walls laid with colorful glasses. As the light shines through the windows, it reflects a type of rainbow and emphasizes the red and pink Persian carpets across the floors of the building.

York Minster Chapter House is a Gothic cathedral located in York, England. This church was first built during the seventh century and includes glass stained windows that are as old as the twelfth century. The religious influence on this art is seen in the religious scenes depicted in many glasses throughout Chapter House.

The Chapel of Thanksgiving in Dallas, Texas is a non-denominational structure of worship which welcomes people of any beliefs or spirituality. This building, beautiful physically and in its purpose, is characterized by the spiral ceiling which is decorated with tinted glasses. Built in 1976, the windows outline the spiral with different colors and glass fragments.

Stained glasses are a widely used addition in many holy architectural structures. The abstract colors, ability to represent figures and symbols and relevance in all designs make it a stunning addition to religious buildings in countries across the world.
