Lanzarote is part of canary island, the third one visiting by tourists after tenerife and gran canaria.

In 1987 Lanzarote was declared one of the six universal models of sustainable development by the World Tourism Organization and in 1994 it was declared a Reseverve of the biosphere by UNESCO

Lanzarote is the most easterly of the seven major Canary Islands and lies in the Atlantic Ocean only some 100 km (60 miles) from the coast of Africa and 1.000 km from the Iberian Peninsula

The island enjoys an overage temperature of 22ºC all year-round and sunny almost 360 days a year due to its advantageous location in the Tropic of Cancer

Lanzarote, including the small islands of La Graciosa, Alegranza, Montaña Clara, Roque del Este y del Oeste, covers 900 km² running 60 km north to south and only 20 km at its widest point

Fishing and agriculture once formed the basis of the island’s economy but have since been overtaken by the excellent quality of its tourism industry.

Amongst the most outstanding attractions are the art, culture and tourists centres run under the auspices of the insular Council. The world famous artist César Manrique's sensitive response to Lanzarote´s unique geography and people was instrumental in creating a pervasive artistic identity throughout the island.

Great care has been taken in preserving its historical and artistic heritage, its monuments and characteristic houses, its local festivals and popular customs... in short, all the expression of its culture and folklore

The beaches are busy all year long, and you can practice a lot of differents water sports as wind surfing, surf, water ski, jet ski...ect there is a place for almost everything

The contryside is quiet poor of vegetation, only cactus, palm trees and volcans

The tourists are in majority english, irish, german and scandinavian

The life in lanzarote is quiet cheaper than in all Europe, because there is a nealy no taxes, that is very interesting especially for products like alcohols, cigarettes (20 Marlboro less than 2.5 Euros), petrol (1 liter of unleaded =0.60 Euro), Parfums, Electronics.....ect

A price of a pint of larger is between 1.5 and 3 Euro and the food is quiet the same that in europe, most of the time is cheaper over here to eat in a restaurant than to cook for yourself, but since the Euro most of the prices are rising a lot, especially food and restauration.

Lanzarote is an island with a great variety of nature. The national park Timanfaya is probably the most famous of the island together with the fire mountains (Montañas del Fuego) Here you can barbecue on lava and you can enjoy spectacular effects when you throw water in one of the many lava holes (see the photo). The temperature is at some places over 140°C at only 10cm under the ground surface! The latest volcanic eruption on Lanzarote was between 1730 and 1736 where more then 200 Km² area was covered with lava. Lanzarote is together with Fuerteventura the oldest islands of the Canaries and is as well called the Black Pearl of the Ocean, this because the dark volcanic rocks and sand on the island. North of the island you can find the 4 smaller islets of the Chinijo Archipelago. The beaches on Lanzarote are famous for wind surfing. Lanzarote Volcano Excursions

Situated on the north east coast of the island and about a 20 minutes drive north from Puerto del Carmen. Costa Teguise was planned from the start as a tourist area and was well laid out with good access and parking. There are five fine beaches offering a wide range of water sports including windsurfing and the resort also has a reasonable sized water park to keep both young and the not so young happy. There is also an 18-hole golf course close by. Costa Teguise has plenty of shops, English bars and restaurants. At dusk there is limited action with the majority being held within the various hotels and apartment complexes. There is a nightclub, disco and casino at the hotel Oasis. It is an ideal resort for those wanting a great beach packed holiday but like to sleep at night. Costa Teguise Lanzarote

Playa Blanca is situated at the very south of the island. It is the newest and fastest developing area of the island. Loads of new building going on but be warned, they are spread out. There are just a few nice but small local beaches in town and the beautiful beaches of Papagayo 7 Km outside, which is mainly used by nudist. Playa Blanca is a pretty town with the usual shops, bars and restaurants based around the old fishing port and is recommended for anyone wanting a relaxing and quiet holiday. Playa Blanca Lanzarote

Joined on either side by Playa de Los Pocillos and Matagorda Puerto del Carmen is the islands oldest and most established tourist centre. The village is situated on the south east coast of the island. It is about 25 Km from the Arrecife and 9 Km from the airport and comprises one main road along the beach (the strip) along which there are many bars, restaurants, shops etc. Daytime activities include, tennis, squash, as much beach and water sports as you can pack in to your schedule, fishing, bike tours (mountain) and horse riding is close by. Puerto del Carmen really comes to life in the evening and there is a wide choice of bars, clubs, disco's. Unless you're planning to sleep on the beach the vast majority of accommodation is situated behind the strip and it's all uphill. Puerto del Carmen Lanzarote

Lanzarote has a large number and variety of beaches spread along the coastline of the island, with, white sand in the north of the island in the direction of Orzola, dark sand, calm waters of Puerto del Carmen, Playa Blanca, with some smalls waves in Costa Teguise for lovers of windsurfing and finally the huge beach of Famara with its famous waves well known from the surfers.

Lanzarote does not only offer beautiful beaches, there are plenty of places to discover:

Timanfaya National Park: a great variety of geological phenomenons can be observed. These are related to the volcanic nature of the island as well as with its biological diversity that reaches 180 different vegetable species.

The César Manrique foundation: it is the great cultural center of the island with characteristics that place it in the international scene as it also gathers the work of the genius artist from Lanzarote.

Jameos del Agua: One of the most interesting cabe and tube system has its beginning to the north of Lanzarote, next to the Monte de la Corona volcano, which had it last eruption around 3.000 years ago.

The cactus garden is one of the last works of César Manrique. It was created over an old stone quarry and transformed into an authentical plantation of several varieties of cacti.

The Contemporary Art Museum is located in the San Jose Castle, a fortress built by King Carlos III from 1776 to 1779.

It will be necessary to rent a car if you want to discover all its unusual landscapes and secrets places.

My advice : Carhire3000 is one of the largest car rental brokers in the world, of course present in Lanzarote, and also all around Europe.

As a broker, Carhire3000 deals with all the major car hire companies around the world checking which local supplier is offering the best prices for the car you want on the date you need it whilst ensuring everyone they deal with offers a great level of service. Carhire3000 will offer much better price for example if you rent a vehicle with Europcar, than if you book directly with this company.

Moreover Carhire3000 will refund the difference in the unlikely event you find cheaper!
