Skiing Vacations : Perfect Canadian Destinations For Skiers

By Mark Walters

When thinking of Canada, some people envision the Great White North, a land of snowy peaks and icy lakes. In all actuality, there is some truth to this notion. Of course, Canada is a land of many climates, but there are many regions that offer breathtaking, open panoramas unspoiled by city skylines and industrial intrusion. These areas that happen to be located in the northern reaches of the country provide some of the finest skiing opportunities in the world, and there are a number of good places to go skiing in Canada.

Even non-skiers are familiar with the name Banff, a town that is nestled in the heart of the Canadian Rockies. It provides the link between Mount Norquay, Sunshine Village, and Lake Louise. These three locales offer up more than 200 ski runs that cover 125 miles of terrain that skiers can sweep across. All levels of skiers will find something to their liking in Banff. There are plenty of instructors available to tutor novices, while cruising runs await intermediate level skiers. Long black runs are there to challenge even the best skiers.

Whistler, located in British Columbia, is one of the most respected resorts in the world. It is often referred to as the best resort in the entirety of North America, and its many awards prove that voters of such matters think so as well. Whistler and Blackcomb mountains rise above the resort, and their peaks are easily traveled between with the aid of the recently implemented Peak to Peak gondola. Whistler calls the Coastal Mountains home, and skiers are swept 1,000 meters above the ground via 10-person gondolas that drop them amongst a veritable smorgasbord of skiing options. Open bowls, tree runs, and rising and falling bump runs offer up unique experiences to ski enthusiasts who wish to accept their challenges.

Expert skiers are enticed by the slopes of Red Mountain, located in the town of Rossland, British Columbia. Once a sparsely-visited area only by those who knew of its reputation by word of mouth, Red Mountain is now a rather popular destination for a wider array of skiing enthusiasts. Beautiful tree skiing and unbroken powder await those who ascend its 2,900 vertical feet. Red Mountain is nearly unmatched in its quality of expert runs, but novices and intermediates will also find slopes to match their skills.

It is easy to assume that Canada is the perfect place to find good skiing, and that is because it is. Its lush evergreens and azure lakes combine with soaring mountain tops to create the perfect skiing destination. Skiers of all levels will find good places to go skiing all over Canada.
