Tips To Consider While Engaging In Gator Hunting In Louisiana

By Stella Gay

Ever since time immemorial man has engaged in harvesting for quite a number of reasons. They used them as food, to make clothing or for purposes of pride. The practice has remained with us even up to date because man still stalks the animals for the same reasons. A case scenario that has become quite popular is gator hunting in Louisiana.

One most notable thing is the fact that their hide is useful in the leather making industry. The items that are made from their hide are considered to be out of this world because of the perception with regards to quality. Therefore, anyone who makes purchases of items made from the leather is guaranteed to be satisfied.

Alligator Harvesting has specific guidelines which are designed to foster an understanding between the hunter and the relevant government authority within the region. The hunter has a responsibility to produce the relevant documents that indicate that they own a wetland area of land which is able to cater for the growth of the animal. The documents must be verified in order to prove their authenticity.

Living in the area and its environs comes with some advantages. One of them is the fact that they can obtain the licenses cheaply as compared to nonresidents. While hunting as a sport, they may need a guide who will assist them to secure the area where they can be accessed. The guides also supervise them so that they do the right thing.

This activity would not be complete if not for introduction of certain equipment. They are namely; hook and line, firearms and bows and arrows. Nevertheless, the issue of firearms must be revised because shot guns are examples of firearms but are not allowed. The relevant department has banned this due to their destructive nature.

Once the hunter has harvested the animal, they are advised to keep the hide in a cool and dry place so that some contaminants cannot interfere with them. The contaminants may be in the form of gasoline or oil. These contaminants contribute a great deal in lowering of the value in the hide or at times make the animal worthless.

The government authority has organized a plan through which they can organize for the activity so that those who want to participate in it can take full advantage of the calendar that has been provided. It clearly states that every first Wednesday of September of each year throughout the month is most appropriate. They can get CITES tags which act as licenses for the activity. If a person defies this order, they may face prosecution.

All in all, it is important to acknowledge the fact that the area recognizes the activity because of the benefits they accrue. Some of the hunters use part of the proceeds they get from selling their hides in supporting themselves. On top of that, the both residents and nonresidents need to find out how much they require before they can obtain their licenses from the wildlife and fisheries department of Louisiana.
