Learn To Use Archery Hunting Equipment

By Joseph Butler

This is the skill of shooting arrows with the use of bows. The skill has been applied by different people for many centuries mainly in hunting and battle, but currently archery is mainly applied in recreation activities and sport. People who practice it are generally known as bowmen or archers, and the term taxophilite is used to refer to a person with a passion and is an expert at using archery hunting equipment.

This equipment constitute of bow which is a flexible long rod whose ends have been connected with a rope, curving into a D shape. The speed of the arrow depends on the mechanical energy stored in the bow that is triggered when the user pulls the string backwards. The arrows have a length range of 5.5-8 inches.

The early Egyptians are also believed to have used these equipment even in their pre-dynastic origins. Other civilizations that practiced these skills included; Koreans, Indians, Armenians, the Japanese among others. Great developments in archery took place in Asia where it was also considered a form of martial arts.

The tribesmen of central Asia and the Plain Indians of America greatly perfected this art while riding on horsebacks. Archers armored with bows and arrows formed the majority of the armies around the Central Asian steppes, conquering vast areas in Eurasia. These archers used shorter bows that were favorable for use on by the archers on horsebacks.

Some Eurasian emperors even associated their rivals with the application of these skills in battles. The Han Dynasty is a good example as they referred to their superior rivals, the Xiong-nu soldiers, as the bearers of arrows and bows. This specific art made them one of the most dreaded armies in the region, enabling them to rapidly expand the Chinese empire.

The use of bows and arrows in wars went through a declination phase with the development of firearms, despite the numerous efforts shown by different countries to preserve it due to its past significances. Despite this new development, these skills still used in battle by different countries because it was still effective even in wet weather where the early guns were ineffective.

Using the skills in recreation activities was also practiced by societies such as the Killwinning Papingo. Competitions in this art were held and the archers were supposed to remove a wooden parrot that was that was placed at the top a tower. One of the oldest sports organizations was formed by the Scottish Archers in 1676 and it was later revived in the late 18th century.

To convert this use of bows and arrows into a competitive sort, the American Grand National Archery Society standardized the rules that regulated this activity. This led to a great increase of participants in this sport since the rules set aside by this association ensured that the sport was safe and competitive. This persisted until the last years of the 19th century, where participation started declining due to the introduction of new sports such as tennis. The development of more sporting activities did not entirely wipe out this art. To date, people all over the world still practice it as a sport and also as one of the most interesting recreational activities which has significantly grown popular over the years and is practiced internationally.
