How To Take Care Of Faux Fur Area Rugs

By Anthony Richardson

To protect animal rights, the use of real fur has been limited and for that reason, fake fur is gaining popularity. You can hardly differentiate between faux fur area rugs and natural fur rugs because they look almost the same. Another good thing about these rugs is that they have more advantages as compared to real fur.

You no longer have to worry about these rugs getting damaged by insects. They can be easily washed and cleaned at home so you no longer have to take them for dry cleaning anymore. To ensure you clean them properly, there are a few important things that you should always keep in mind.

For instance, if the fur length is long, then its better that you do a bit of hand washing because machine washing may cause knotting and it would completely ruin the look of it. Its better to follow the manufacturer's guidelines and if it says dry clean only then do not attempt to wash at all because it might damage the fibers and your rug would loose its shape completely.

To make sure that the rug retains its looks for a long period of time, you have to ensure you take care of it properly and that is not difficult to do at all. Other colors may survive excessive wear and tear but if its white in color, then you have to take extra care because white color may get dirty easily. Always use a mild detergent for washing and never try to over do it.

Usually, it is recommended to air dry the rug instead of using the dryer. This is because faux fur is purely synthetic and if it is exposed to excessive heat from the dryer, it may damage the rug immensely. Spinning is also not recommended therefore, if you have decided to machine wash it, always use the most mild settings without any spinning or drying.

Its better to dry it indoors because exposing it to natural sunlight may fade out the colors. Direct sunlight and heat are both harmful for such type of rugs so you should not attempt to put it under direct sunlight. Avoid putting it on a flat surface whilst its drying because it will take more than double time to dry that way. Always use a hanger or rail so that it can be dried easily.

The fur might get tangled and looped after washing but it can be untangled again. Use a soft brush and gently comb down the rug until it appears to be smooth and fluffy again. To make it even more smooth and fluffy you could spray a bit of fabric softener onto the rug and then work away with the brush. Never try to brush too hard because the fibers might come out.

Its imperative to keep them in a decent condition with the goal that they retain their shape for a lifetime. If they're kept perfectly, they add excellence to any room where you put them.
