How To Choose The Perfect Leash For Surf Boards

By Amy Ward

Swimming is not the only thing one can do on beaches and oceans. There are more to that especially when doing activities that are extremely exciting and enjoyable like surfing. However, to enjoy surfing, the ocean must have the best waves to play along with. Yes, this activity is one of the most dangerous stuff to try on the ocean but with the appropriate amount of practice everything can possibly go right. Aside from that surfers are in need of investing into equipment and tools which are of high quality so that they can assure their safety more and one of the things they are in need of greatly considering is surfboard leash.

This may look like an ordinary thread for some people but it has one of the most important role when surfing. This has two purpose and both are important. The first one is merely for the safety of the surfer against the tide. The next one is to keep them close to their boards even if they were not on top of it anymore because of the wipeout.

There are so many leash one can possibly choose from but there is no guarantee that all are exactly the same of quality unless checked. That is where all the consideration is needed to get done and practiced. Surfers would never want to put their lives at risk just because they have chosen the wrong types of leash.

The first thing they need to look at when choosing one is the cuff. That is what holds the ankle. Commonly, the standards of such materials are being set into the highest as possible and because of that one may get a hard time choosing which amongst the rest is the best. But then, the one that stands out the most are those Velcro types of cuff.

Then the swivel are also important in the decision making. Choose a leash that has a swivel feature on the attachment. That holds a huge advantage that could allow the leash to spin and then twist without any problem at al. That makes the surfer get the freedom they need in moving along with the tide.

Then they have to choose a cord which is durable enough. Something that hold them together even after a nasty wipeout. One of the material for cord which is so durable would be the polyurethane. Try looking for one that is made of that material.

Then make sure to check on the length as well. Most of the time, this has something to do with the preferences of the surfer. But, the most recommended length would be the longer ones so that movements are more precise and free.

Next thing to consider are the thickness of the leash. There are two classification of these materials and it normally would be subjected on its purpose. The one made for competition leashes are quite different in quality with the regular ones.

One should know when to use the right classification so that they get the best out of their surfing activity each and every time. For the first time pickers of leash, try asking for help from those who have been into surfing for quite some time. They do have their own criteria in choosing and you can expect that it is the best.
