You may decide to go to backcountry areas for recreation reasons. You can only enjoy yourself as required only if you do proper arrangements. In such areas, you are not likely to find developed campsites. It is important to do things in the right manner so as to enhance backcountry and outdoor safety. Some of items to carry with you during the trip are survival gear, nice map and GPS. Ensure you notify family members and friends on the route to follow. This can help them trace you in case there is need to. Inform them on preferred campsite and time you expect to go back home. Checking weather forecast before you start the journey is beneficial. It will help you do proper preparation. Ensure you are prepared for weather changes.

Outdoor adventure may turn sour owing to; poor judgment, unexpected injury, sudden illness, getting lost and poor judgment. Encountering a very dangerous animal can make things worse. If you do not take appropriate measures, your life can be endangered. Excellent preparation and good planning are the only ways to enable you stay safe throughout. Good planning is very important.

Some of animals that live in backcountry areas are grizzly bears, cougars and black bears. It is not only dangerous, but also frightening to encounter the aforementioned types of bears. To avoid finding yourself in such kind of circumstances avoid traveling alone. Moving in a larger group is much safer. Ensure you carry a bear spray and you know how to use it. It is advisable to make a lot of noise when nearing blind corners, streams and dense shrubs. Noise may help in driving away the bears.

Do not go with the pet to the campsite. However, if there is a good reason of doing it, ensure you take good care of it. Loose dogs attract and irritate bears. This crystal clearly shows how risky it is to move with a pet to such surroundings. Avoid places with claw marks, bear scat and fresh digging. Cooking site should be situated at least 100m away from sleeping place.

Food remains ought to be put inside bags and sealed. Food remains together with scented items must be hanged around 100m far from sleeping point. Ensure you do not sleep in clothes which you had while cooking. This will limit chances of bears coming into sleeping site. Use fresh and clean pajamas.

It is advisable to collect litters that you may come across in the campsite. However, artifacts, fossils, rocks and wildflowers should never be collected. You can take photographs if you wish. Water in campsites is generally cold. If you are to cross rivers and even streams, ensure you do it in the right manner for the good of your safety.
