Some Things About Miniature Crape Myrtle

After the first spring blooming wave, when summer comes, Crape Myrtles begin to blossom. They stay so wonderful all summer long, and even longer. These plants are popular for quite a long time now, mostly as large, attractive shrubs, although they have more than fifty different, all very appealing varieties. Miniature Crape Myrtle becomes very popular lately, and you can grow it even on your terrace.

Large Myrtles can be maybe twelve feet high, and these little cousins are equally luxurious, but much smaller. Dwarf sized Myrtles will reach up to four feet, and miniatures not even that. Most of them are between one and three feet high. Just like their larger cousins, they are available in different colors and types, with different growth habits.

All minis are quite popular lately, but some of them are really something special. For example, Chickasaw. This little plant will reach maybe one or two feet in height, but it will be full of hundreds of beautiful, delicate pink flowers that will stay till the end of the season. Thanks to its very good resistance to insects and different weather conditions, planting it could be a very good idea.

Another very popular weeping variety of miniature Crape Myrtle is Delta Blush. This lovely cultivar has long lasting bunches of especially appealing light pink flowers. It is usually used as a showcase plant in all sizes of gardens. Thanks to its beauty and high weather and insect resistance, it is suitable for container growing as well.

Pocomoke is very good potting plant, and it has especially attractive, hot pink clusters that come late in the summer. Weeping Alamo Fire comes earlier, and people mostly choose it thanks to its beautiful red flowers. This amazingly appealing plant will decorate your terrace or patio, and add color to any part of your lovely garden.

New Orleans Weeping is a little bit larger, up to three feet plant, with numerous purple colored flowers. World's Fair Weeping has very nice, watermelon colored bunches of sweet tiny flowers you will simply adore. They are both suited for container growth as well, what makes them just great for decorating hidden corners of your lovely deck.

Rosy Carpet is very small, up to one foot high plant, with lovely bunches of tiny pink flowers. It can be used as a ground cover, although it works very well as potting plant. Most varieties can be planted in any part of your garden, or in large containers. Most of them have very good mildew resistance, and are easy to maintain.

During the growing season, you should fertilize your plants regularly, maybe twice a week. The best mixtures are water soluble ones. Most Myrtles can survive low temperatures, if planted in the ground. Potted plants should be protected if it gets too cold outside. These plants are resistant to most insects, except maybe aphids. They don't have serious problems with any plant diseases.

Miniature Crape Myrtle adores full sun, but slight shade won't be a problem. It doesn't have problems with any soil type, but if it gets too hot, it requires enough water. Suitable for growing in very hot climate, this small and attractive plant is highly decorative addition to any garden, terrace or patio, and requires very little maintenance.
