What To Know About Indoor Office Plants

By Elena McDowell

It can be difficult to work in an inside environment all day long. The addition of indoor office plants can liven up a space and make it feel more welcoming. Furthermore, this is a way to bring the nature from outside to an inside space, even if that space does not have access to a window or door. Those who work in cubicles or office spaces may note the dreariness of their setting.

There are numerous things to keep in mind when choosing what kind of plant to add to your space. Think about the lighting. Spaces that do not have window access may not receive any direct sunlight and only artificial light. Some plants will need partial or full sun, and others thrive best in shaded areas. Think about where your space is at and how much sunlight you get during the day. This will help you narrow the choices.

Also keep in mind your coworkers. Before you begin shopping around for something, think about the people you work with and around. Mold and pollen allergies are common, so address those things before making any purchases. It is rare for indoor kinds to flower. Still, coworkers who have pollen allergies may struggle with certain kinds. If you do choose a flowering type, cut off the flower buds as soon as they come up.

It is important that individuals who choose to have these in their space commit to taking care of these. Although they may require minimal care, dead plants are unattractive and could cause problems. Make sure you are aware of the watering requirements and all that goes into caring for the plant before choosing it. If you want something that does not require a lot of upkeep, purchase accordingly.

Usually, the best kind of office plant is one that is easily contained, small and can tolerate the shade. English Ivy is one example of this. The plant is located in many areas of the world. It is a climbing plant, which means individuals should purchase a grid made of mesh or wood for it to grown on. The Wandering Jew is another type. The plant, also called Inch Plant, features leaves with dark and silvery greens.

The Asparagus Fern might be another office plant. Because these can grown to be three feet in width and height, they are not good for shelves. Still, they are bright green color, bushy and nice to look at. These may work better in large cubicles or offices. The Snake Tongue is known for being attractive and hardy. It has strong contrast and can grow to two or three feet in height.

Jade Plant is known for its lasting power. The leaves are vibrant green and have a shiny, rubbery appearance. Those interested in potted plants that clean the air might consider: Aloe Vera, Golden Pothos, Red-Edged Dracaena, Rubber Plant and Peace Lily.

Indoor office plants come in many different shapes and sizes. When choosing one to fit your space, consider your lighting, nearby coworkers, maintenance and care, and other similar facts. Adding this nature into a workspace can liven it up and increase productivity.
