Choosing Your Walking Shoes According To Your Needs

By Adam Torres

When it comes to the choice of walking shoes there are several aspects that can be considered. However, walking is one of the best exercises to keep yourself healthy. It is a common factor that we often go for the looks of the shoes and how they fit on our feet for making the choice of our shoes but that is not always the final points of consideration that should be while making the choice.

The choice of the best walking shoes of course related to the comfort of walking and for those people who usually go on long walks it is undoubtedly an added benefit to have comfortable shoes to support the shock absorbing system of your feet.

As we all know that our feet have an automatic shock absorbing system known as pronation. This is noted in the arch of the feet as we step. Most normal people have neutral pronation system which works perfectly fine when they walk. But as a matter of fact, in some people, pronation works differently. In some people the collapse and extension of the arc is either too big or too small.

However, if you can keep in mind the pronation of your feet while purchasing your walking shoes it would be easier on your feet to be more comfortable while walking. It can be tested through wet test, by stepping on dry ground while your feet is wet you can observe that in some people there is a flat footprint which is known as under pronation, while in normal case there is a slight arc in between the toe and the back of the footprint, one the other hand people having over pronation have a very deep arc in their footprint.

Some basic factors to look out for are that walking shoes must be breathable so that to allow enough air flow to your feet to make your feel comfortable. If your shoes are not breathable enough they may not provide the best comfort for a long walk.

Now the thing to note that our feet adjust automatically according to our needs, as for example the difference between walking, running and jogging. Now when you walk your feet have a firm grip on the ground which reduces with our increase in speed while jogging or running respectively. That is the reason why we need to choose different types of shoes for different purposes. Shoes meant for running is not a suitable option for walking.

Another important thing to consider while choosing walking shoes is that the choice should always be made keeping in mind the structure of your feet. Apart from the size you should also be very keen to choose the pair of shoes that are perfectly suitable for the shape of your feet. This not only helps you get more comfortable in your shoes but also is essential for the perfect pressure on your feet as well.

It is not likely that you will benefit anything if you are in the habit of regular long walks but you are not comfortable with your shoes. It is always better to choose breathable shoes which offers better comfort and reduces the chances of sweating of your feet. Light weight shoes are always more preferable choice for walking as they offer better comfort for long walks.
