Is That Really A Doll?

By Debbie Marie

If you search the web for real baby dolls, you will most likely find dolls with the following names: life like, lifelike, reborn, or newborn dolls. Although a knowledgeable doll collector would be ashamed, the average doll fan doesn't seem to know the difference. But, they're all looking for the same thing: a small doll that looks amazingly realistic, In fact, many people might think for a moment that they are actually babies. This is the new thing that many people want.

Times have changed and so have the dolls that we want to possess. These days, more and more people want dolls that look realistic. Young girls want them so their pretend "real" dolls look just like mommies. Collectors, as always, simply want to add to their collections. Some though, want a lifelike doll to fill a place in their lives. They generally want one that looks like a real child that they miss. They want the doll to help fill a void for their longing of the past.

These types of dolls are like many others in what they are made of. Many are made of vinyl for their heads and limbs. Some have all parts made of bisque porcelain, while others are a combination of the two. Either way, these dolls look more like actual babies than china dolls. Most though, have soft, cloth bodies so they are better the hold and have weight like an actual newborn.

Real baby dolls can be found in different forms of creation as well. Some are made like most porcelain dolls, where molds are made and the are mass produced. Some are made to order by an individual doll maker. These are usually made to specs provided by the buyer. Others are made using reborn kits where an existing doll is stripped down and refinished with the makers desires.

These dolls are found very commonly at stores. They are typically found online or at craft fairs and indoor flea markets.
