Grow A Miniature Crape Myrtle In The Backyard

By Georgia Diaz

Having a garden or a few plants in the backyard can be a real therapy for those who are stressed out all the time. Now if one really loves to take care of trees and plants, then he might want to try growing a miniature crape myrtle. These are one of the prettiest garden trees in the entire world of gardening but they are also quite known to be demanding as they do need quite a bit of attention.

The first step in growing one of these things would be to first find a good spot or location where it would be good for the tree to flourish. A good place would be in an area where the sunlight really shines and where the place has rather dry soil. The best times to start growing a myrtle tree would actually be in the summer or probably in the spring.

The first thing to do would be to dig a hole in the ground that is wider and bigger than the root ball of the try. After that put it inside the hole and to spread the roots inside the ground before filling the hole with soil. Once that is done, put some water on the soil for around ten minutes.

Now one should make sure that he waters the plant for around ten minutes before he dumps some compost on the base. The compost will act as the fertilizer of the myrtle as this tree reacts well to it. So make sure to make a circle of compost around the base of the tree so that the tree can suck it in.

Once that is done, one must now add some mulch on to the base near where the compost was placed a while ago. Now for the measurements, one should put the mulch approximately three inches away from the trunk of the tree. Also, one must put the mulch in a circle that has a diameter of five feet.

Once all of the preparations have already been set, then the next thing that one has to think of would be the water. During the summer, the tree might get overheated because of the harsh weather condition which is why it needs to be watered. However, it is important to note that the water should not be in excess because it likes rather dry soil.

After the summer, spring will come which means that the tree that was grown will need some pruning done on it. Take note that whenever a tree develops some weak or dead wood, they need to be cut off. The reason for that is simply because they need to make way for newer wood.

Now as one can see, there are actually a lot of things to do to care for a miniature crape myrtle. These steps mentioned above are only some of the few things to do in order to care for this type of tree. Along the way, one will learn other things to do in order to make this tree grow strong.
