Contra Costa: A County Filled With Family Fun

By Madeleine Glazier

If you are searching for a great place for your family to live in the San Francisco metro area, the towns and cities of Contra Costa County should be high on your list. A combination of top-rated school districts, excellent property values and some of the state's safest neighborhoods make this area ideal for families that have children. You also will have no trouble finding activities that are suitable for all ages of children.

Kids of all ages love amusement parks, and this scenic county offers a variety of options. For smaller children, Pixieland is a good choice. This includes smaller-scale rides including a train and carousel. During the warmer months, consider taking the family to Waterworld, which includes everything from extreme slides to areas where little ones can splash and play.

California is blessed with great weather and fabulous parks, and there are dozens of parks throughout this county. Virtually every town has its own parks department and offers not only some great playgrounds but free seasonal events as well. The county operates many different parks as well as the East Bay Regional Park District, which operates parks in both Contra Costa County and adjacent Alameda County. There are nature trails to enjoy, miles of seashore to explore and plenty of spots for picnics or just running around.

If the weather is rainy, there are still plenty of options that will burn off energy. There is a rock-climbing gym in Livermore, an ice skating rink in Dublin and a roller skating rink in San Ramon, not to mention a variety of bowling alleys and facilities where kids can jump in inflatable houses, glide down huge inflatable slides or jump around on trampolines. Check out venues such as Bounce U or Sky High to find out when they have open-play times.

In addition to all the local fun, there are hundreds of attractions in San Francisco, Berkeley and Oakland, including zoos, science centers, children's museums and much more. All of these activities are less than an hour's drive from most cities in the county, so they make excellent day trips for children of all ages.

If you need to find Danville real estate, Orinda real estate, Walnut Creek real estate or perhaps homes for sale in Moraga, San Ramon or any other Contra Costa City, select your real estate agent carefully. Contact a firm with a great deal of expertise in helping clients buy and sell homes in the area, such as 1st InSite.
