Outdoor Survival Kits Used For Safe Wilderness Hiking

By Melissa Brooks

When you are out in the wild you need a diverse set of skills. This can vary depending on the challenges you face but can include the sending of distress signals or something as simple as staying dry.One thing you need to remember before you go out into the wild is that you need outdoor survival kits as well as common sense and a good standard of health. You should have a check list of things you need to pack, and you must never venture out into the wild if you are confident about spending a night under the stars.

When setting out into the wild, it is important that you have all the necessary equipment with you that you may need. The trick is to pack light, but not to forget any of the essentials that you may need. You will find many a check list online for hiking, and items you will always see include a basic first aid kit, a knife, a rope, something to make a shelter with, and adequate supplies of water and energy snacks.

The most important part of any survival kit will be your water. Man can survive alone for more than a few days just with water. So, make sure you have a water bottle with you you can refill so that you will never become dehydrated.

There is no point in setting out into the wilderness armed with a knife, some rope, and a tarpaulin if you do not know how to use them. With just these three items you can make an emergency shelter, repair a damaged tent, or secure yourself whilst climbing up difficult terrain. A knife should be multipurpose, and learning some basics in knot tying before you set out is essential.

If you have set out for a day but were unable to turn back due to adverse weather conditions, you will need to stay dry and warm. With little more than a tent and your clothes this can be a hard task, especially if it is raining. The best way to stay warm is to light a fire. To do this efficiently you will need to know how to use the knife that you packed.

If the weather is bad and it is windy or cold, trying to start a fire can be a challenge. This is where the tarpaulin you packed comes in handy, keeping you protected from the cold and rain and allowing you to make a fire that will stay lit.

If you are planning a wilderness hike then you are most likely a thrill seeker. But with thrill comes danger, and you must be prepared. If you step out into the wild and are not fully equipped your trip can quickly turn into a nightmare.

Trial runs at home can help you prepare your skills, as can reading up on what other people have to say in their adventures into wild territories. Surviving the wilderness is a life skill that everyone should learn, the great outdoors being the largest playground there is where you can enjoy many happy hours alone or with your family or hiking partner.
