By Susan Carter

Unforeseen occurrences can happen to anyone in this world. Being ready always is advisable. This will include packing some essentials that one can easily access in case of a disaster, this may include fire, earthquake or war. Emergency survival kits should consist of things that one cannot do without them, they may include the following.

The most essential thing is a first aid box which should consist of all the needed item to perform any aid to an injured person. This will be really helpful because people may get injured in a fire or if an earthquake happens and may not be able to access a hospital. This will help in saving the life of the people until they can access a medical facility to receive treatment, so this is one thing that one should never forget to pack.

Water is a very important thing in every living thing, may it be animals or human beings. So it is recommended for one to include several liters of water that would at least last for four days. Water may be used for drinking, washing or cleaning wounds that can be as a result of the crisis.

Medication should also be carried along. Some people need medicines for survival because they have diseases that cannot be cured. People with asthma also need to carry their inhalers and any other medicines required. Most medicines have their expiry dates so it would be a good idea to check regularly and replace the ones about to expire to be sure of safe medication in case a disaster occurs.

Fire is another thing that is so important in the life of a human being hence, one should carry a matchbox or anything that can be used to light the fire while away from home. Some people may find themselves in the forest where there are wild animals so the fire can be used to scare them as people sleep during the night, it is also important in keeping people warm and for cooking.

Food is also an essential thing that one cannot do without it. Packing some foodstuffs is recommended, this may include nonperishable food that will last for long, it should be easy and fast to cook because of the time and fire limitation. The food should be enough to last for at least four days until any help is offered by people around or by the government concerned.

No emergency survival kit should lack cutlery. This includes a knife that will be very helpful during the days away from home. A knife has many uses, it may be used for defense purposes or for preparing food or even used to cut ropes or tree stalks that may be used to make up a small shelter for the family. So one should not forget to pack a knife for it is very important for survival.

Clothes are also important, so it is advisable for one to have some essential clothes packed for each and every member of the family. This will help if the clothes have been torn or are extremely dirty due to the struggles brought about by the crises. It would be advisable to pack warm clothes to be warm at night.
