Essential Information for New Golfers

By Andre Riggs

Many people struggle for years, trying to improve their golf game, yet they never seem to make any headway. Unfortunately, they ultimately give up on the game out of disappointment. If you find yourself in this situation, don't be too hasty to throw out your clubs because everyone can become a better golf player. You just have to ensure that you are doing it properly. The following three suggestions are for improving your game and getting you to the point that you have always dreaming about being in when it comes to golf.

The first step to making your golf game better is to ensure that you have the correct equipment. This does not mean that you have to own the most expensive equipment out there. To be quite honest, if you are new to the game, you should get the least expensive clubs you can find. These should be preferably from a garage sale, until you can figure out which clubs are best suited to your style of play. For example, if you want a lighter club that is easier to swing, you should buy ones with graphite shafts. But, you need to remember that the cheapest are steel shaft clubs. The only way to find the perfect set of clubs is to try them out, even if that means asking to try your friend's clubs while on the range. Once you have picked out the correct golf clubs, you can then invest in a set of personally fitted golf clubs.

There is more to improving your golf game than just playing the game. One of the best ways to play a better golf game is to watch other players. You should watch them very closely and evaluate everything from their posture and aim to their swing. However, it is essential to only watch those who have the same physical traits as yourself. For instance, you want to pay attention to a golfer who has a body such as your and whose swing is like yours too. Also pick out a player according to what you want to achieve. So, if you choose to learn a long game, then pay attention to somebody such as Ernie Els. Or, you can focus on Walter Hagen if you want to perfect short games. If you desire to make your putting better, then Phil Mickelson is your best selection.

The saying "practice makes perfect" holds true for golf as well. As you spend more time practicing you can expect a better game. Spending a little time with a decent golf pro can help you identify problems with your game and weaknesses in your swing. After all, you don't want to spend a lot of time making your bad habits even harder to break. Instead of getting keyed up over performance, make a point of having fun. Don't risk having a great game because your scores aren't living up to your personal expectations. Remember that it takes the pros years of daily practice to get where they are.

As you can tell, there are some important aspects that can help you improve your golf game, but they don't have anything to do with playing the game itself. However, without a good base for building up your skills, you do not have a good opportunity for making your game better. So, get the basics down pat and you will be on the road to making other golfers sweat.
