Gardening Tools To Make Your Life Easier And More Productive

By Charles Carbon Xavier

The designs of most gardening tools are already hard to improve upon. While the base designs might not have changed, there have been amendments made in recent years. For example, you can buy a garden hoe that has a guard on it to act as a plant protector. Of course there is a never ending effort to produce new materials. There are benefits to using various materials such as metal alloys and other composites. But a lot of times newer tools are as equally expensive, and sometimes more, due to efforts to recoup developmental costs. Wherever possible, though, it's preferable to look for stainless steel high quality gardening tools.

You might not be so sure of the names of the tools you want, which leads to some tools being misused or mistaken for other items. For instance, some people are easily confused by the differences between a shovel and a spade. A spade is actually what you are supposed to use for digging. Yet a shovel is designed to be wider and flatter so it's ideal for scooping up looser soil or dirt. Some tool makers will create spades that have a D-shaped handle. In that case, it can be handy to also use it to scoop materials. Ideally, the spade or shovel you choose should be made from forged metal You can find pressed metal tools, but they will tend to bend easily.

While it might be a bit quicker to water the whole garden with the hose, it's not always the best idea. Very small plants or delicate plants are easily damaged with higher water pressure from the hose. You can protect them by opting to use a watering can and then ensuring you only water the plants at the base. If you still want to use a hose, be sure you buy the correct attachments for watering delicate plants. But be sure you can throttle the water flow enough to prevent damage. The materials used to make watering cans and hose attachments will vary, so choose one to suit you.

On a safety note, you should always wear gloves when working with long handle tools. Even though the wood is finished and smooth, you can still get a splinter. Topsoil is one of the things that you will need to haul in to your garden. Or you can clear weeds and put them in the barrow to easily move.

Having both a garden and a lawn is nice, because there are ways that the can benefit each other. A leaf rake is another tool that is good to have, because leaves will certainly blow into your garden during the fall. People have different reasons for having a garden, and some don't keep them up for the whole year. If you keep up with your garden the whole year, it will end up being easier in the long run. The leaf rake is also very handy in the spring gardens and into summer if you need to clean your garden. To keep your lawn and garden in top shape, you will need to pull weeds, and then you will need to use your tools to remove them.
