Ways To Speed Up A Slow Computer

By Warren Marshall

The speed computers process applications today are far faster than their predecessors. However, the moment we start to get used to the speed of the computers we work on regularly, we start to complain how slow the unit runs.

Well, here is a list of things that you can do to speed up your computer performance. You don't have to worry as these are pretty simple steps to follow and they are effective in making your computer faster.

First off, clean up your desktop of unused icons and files. Delete all shortcuts save for those that you use regularly. These icons, however useful they may seem, actually slow down the startup of your computer. Plus, they take up hard disk space.

If you're worried you might not be able to find the files you need, use the Search feature of your operating system. After all, this is what that feature was built for - to search for files. Compared to a slow computer, this extra step in running a program should be easy enough to bear.

Next, a computer with lots of main memory is a faster computer. Therefore, upgrade your RAM as the software applications being run today need larger memory compared to the software used five years ago.

If you have installed software that you are not using then uninstall these. They are just taking up precious space and bogging down the computer.

Spywares and viruses can easily bug down the speed of the processor of your computer. When your computer gets infected it can even simply shut down forever. This is the reason why it is important to invest time on scanning your computer and at the same time, defragmenting the hard disc regularly to keep the processor running at its ideal level.

Finally, why don't you ask yourself: "How slow do you want your computer to go?" If your answer is "No, I want my computer to go faster," then you should start checking your computer using the three easy steps above.
