Utilising A Diamond Size Chart

By Anthony Clark

An inexperienced jewellery shopper may have difficulty in choosing which gems to buy. One helpful tool that they can avail of is a diamond size chart. The tips that follow show how such a tool can be used for maximum benefit.

To begin with, realise that the size being taken into account more than any other here is not how big the actual diamonds are. Instead, the carat of these gems are the focus of such charting (though the first quality is by no means neglected). Make sure that this is kept in mind when using this guide, as you should have a better idea of what to appraise.

The higher the carat which is listed, the more costly the gem will probably be. That is due to gems which have higher carats being more rare and thus possessing a higher retail value within the market. That is another thing you cannot overlook when you shop for such items.

Also understand that because carat does not actually equate to how big the gem is, the actual gem will not be larger when the carat is higher. The measurements will be listed separately from the carat. But it is important for you not to get the two values confused.

Lastly, ensure that the guide which you are using has certification from the GIA. They are the global authority on the carats and values of gemstones, and may be used to independently check the goods offered. So ensure that they have stamped their imprimatur at a retail outlet before you buy anything there.

To conclude, then, utilising a diamond size chart is a process of understanding a few things. Those include telling carats from measurements, realising how carat and expense is inversely proportional, and being aware of how necessary GIA certification is. All of this will be taken care of with due attention to the paragraphs above.
