Career In Shrub Trimming

By Bill Duggen

What is tree pruning? For increasing the growth and maintaining the desired shape of tree, sometime extra or unwanted plant parts are discarded. This procedure is known as pruning. It is the easiest process to maintain the shape and dimension of a tree.

When tree should be pruned. It is pruning and training which is habitually practiced in the initial life stage of trees. With the aid of pruning the resistance capacity of trees will increase against any severe damages before maturity. We should avoid older, trees during pruning as it is both risky & costly to do. You can practice pruning on established trees if they remain inactive. There is no other way except pruning, if a tree especially young is getting damaged.

Pruning tree at early age It is nothing but pruning which is initiated on new trees first year after transplanting Through pruning we can recognize and right glitches with the main framework of the tree within the first few years after planting. During pruning the lower branches should not be pruned as they produce food for the tree and provide shadow to subsidiary bark.

It is recommended to keep the scaffold branches at 45 degree angle with the central leader as they make the framework of the tree. Closely spaced scaffolds lateral create less lateral branches whether widely spaced branches produce large numbers of lateral branches.

Pruning operation in case of aging tree From the fear of damaging property at the time of storm man of the country moves forward to prune large trees at top level. Topping trees operation should be avoided. Through this practice the main branch of the tree is cut off without considering the position of lateral branches. It is highly harmful for the tree.

Thinning operation The objective of thinning is not to reduce the size of plant but make the plant more accessible to get sunlight as the canopy becomes open. Thinning is used to increase physical strength and resistance power against any scarcity.

It is thinning which is used to separate departed, cracked, feeble or ailing branches from trees. At that time, the canopy which is going out of a size or rising densely is discarded.

Stop the spreading of tree It is heading back which helps to reduce the general extent of a tree. You should remove the top portion when you are working with a well developed lateral branch. It is convenient to select a branch that forms a 45 degree angle with the discarded branches in case of heading back to cross lateral branches.

You should give a slanting cut in case of upward growing limbs. It will protect the wound from water stagnant and helps to close the wound earlier. The branches which are large should be separated above the neckline not flat with the trunk.

Care of pruning cuts From the research it is proved that treated wood remains much longer than the untreated wound. Mostly, a closed wound is favorable for the healthy growth of harmful microbes. Wound dressing may cause the death of cambial cell and as a result the wound may open for long time.
