Learning The Organic Life And How To Plant And Grow Asparagus

There are people who loves to plant in their backyards and to harvest their own fruits and vegetables. They usually have it because they want to make sure that the food they eat is safe, less expenses and some of us just really loves to plant. Aside from the fact that it beautify our homes, it actually creates a soothing and relaxing vibe, and it help us connect with nature.

We are into organic living because we believe in a traditional way of healing and soothing our self. Asparagus is one the best vegetable in which you can get a lot of benefit and can be planted in your own houses. You do not need worry on how to plant and grow asparagus because there are easy guides for it.

Asparagus is known vegetable as a type similar to onions and garlic. The buds become harder when blooms so the shoots instead are the part commonly eaten by people. It is a good appetizer and side dish but there are still several ways that you can eat it and it varies to the tradition or country you are into.

It is about 2 to 3 years for the plant to produce however, its productivity last for 20 to 30 years. The perfect season to plant them is on Spring season because the soil is good for planting. Make their beds for about 2 to 4 inch in a mix type of soil and get all the weeds surrounding it.

Have a trench as deep as 6 to 12 inches and check that it has a proper water irrigation because they are not wet kind of plant. Create a mound to be located in the trench and start placing the crowns with several spaces apart, in order for them to grow thoroughly. Cover it with not so much soil just to create another layer and water them properly.

When they are starting to grow, make sure that you fill the trench with soil leaving 3 to 4 inches of the stem to be exposed. By the time that the trench is filled try to add a 4 to 8 inch layer of mulch and water them regularly. Do not harvest it when you reach its first year instead, try cutting down dead foliage.

For the following years, you can harvest them when you noticed that they become more establish and vegetative and the spear is thicker than a pencil. They can be harvested for several weeks once the spears starts to show. After the harvest, allow them to grow again and replenish their nutrients for the next production.

You can identify a type of asparagus through its color and they have different features as well. Purple, they are planted as purple but they change their color once cooked and they have a smaller amount of spears. White, they are sweeter but it does not have enough fiber because they are grown with lesser light form the sun that causes to block the chlorophyll.

They provide a lot of nutritional effects in our body that can help fight cancer because it replenishes tarnish cells. Helps cure urine problem because of its amount of amino acid. So in preparing it, just make sure that you are maintaining its nutrients.
