Death Knight - WoW's First Hero Class

By Jurinsthea Smith

The mid November 2008 was the time of release of WoTLK when a new class was introduced namely The Death Knight. The Death Knights are considered as the first Hero Class of WoW. Actually, the 'Hero Class' seems unknown to all, since they have not proven their difference than the other classes. The exceptional thing is that you need higher level 55 characters in order to create a Death Knight. This created Death Knight of 55 level characters uses Runic Power and thereby his abilities.

Once you create a Death Knight you will enter the game as a level 55 character that is loyal to Arthas the Lich King. You will start fully equipped with green gear and 4, 12 slot bags and 20 silver in Acherus - The Ebon Hold which can be found in the Eastern Plaguelands. As you start questing near The Ebon Hold you will be rewarded talent points and blue item and once you reach level 57 or so you will have the regular amount of talent points for that level and full blue gear.

I will not take away the fun by explaining the quest chain but I can tell you that the quest chain is cool and rewarding. You can reach level 58 in just an hour or two by doing the quests around The Ebon Hold so even if you do not intend to play a Death Knight it is nice to at least pick up some cool lore. Once you hit 58 you are able to go to the Outlands though and you know that the leveling there isn't time-consuming, so who knows; even if you didn't plan to play a Death Knight, you might still get stuck playing one because it is a cool class.

A Death Knight can wear most of the melee weapons as he is a melee class. One can choose two one-handed weapons or opt for one two-handed weapon. He can either serve as a melee damage dealer or as a tank. Nevertheless, a Death Knight fails to equip a Shield, but they are capable of wearing plate armor and getting a very high parry chance.

As said earlier, the Death Knight uses Runic Power as a melee fighter for his special abilities. He can use 6 runes by using certain abilities. Having a cooldown, these runes can give some Runic Power to the Death Knight. This Runic Power can be employed in using other special abilities that do not place a rune on cooldown, but cost merely Runic Power.

"The Emblazoned Runeblade" is one of the first quests that you will happen to meet. You will get the Runeforging ability with this quest. This ability is also helpful in forging a rune on the DK's weapons.

Frost, Blood, and Unholy are the three talent trees of the Death Knight. Each tree is advantageous in its own way. However, it is up to the player, whether to use the talent tree separately or in combination.

The benefits of a Death Knight are that starting with him at 55 level is very easy to continue the fight with both tank and dps for a long duration. They look not only cool some sort, but also have a Ghoul and Gargoyle pet. The flip side of playing a Death Knight is that the one who wants to play a Death Knight cannot find groups and raids.
