Have Fun With Stock Market Board Games

By Jeannie Chapman

There was a time when just about every family had a game night. Cards, puzzles or a board game, it didn't matter, it was about being together. With our hyper-active lives many people are rediscovering this simple pleasure once again. For a night with some educational benefit, you might try one of the stock market board games that are available. So put away the technology for a few hours and reconnect with family and friends.

Imagine this. Instead of having your head and all your family's faces stuck in their smartphones and tablets, unplug and pull out a game. Gathering around the table with a deck of cards or a game is a centuries-old tradition. And why? It's about enjoying each others company, having some friendly competition and connecting with other humans. And the winning. Winning is always good.

It's not only about relaxation. These type of games also exercise the brain. Buying and selling stocks and other investments, calculating earnings, figuring out what to buy and what to sell makes you think a bit. Maybe the best part is handling the money (even if it is phoney). Adults and kids both like to handle a big bankroll of cash.

Kids get a lot out of playing stock market board games. The educational benefits are many. They use their math skills counting up money, calculating earnings and dividends. Learning the basics of investing is also a real benefit and provides a good foundation for the future. The best part is that kids won't even mind learning; they'll be having too much fun.

Kids and family aren't the only ones that can have fun with board game. Invite over a few friends, have some dinner and drinks and start a game. To add a little more laughter to the evening you can channel your college days and add a few rules of your own. If you're playing a stock game and you pick a winner, it's time to drink. Go bust and drain the cup. Force somebody into bankruptcy and... Well you get the idea. Just remember to drink responsibly.

Since their rise in popularity, finding investment and stock market board games is pretty easy. Almost all major retailers have a game aisle. You can also go online and find a whole host of new and classic titles. Older titles can be fun to play, and there are a bunch of games from the 50's and 60's that you can find on auction sites.

If you must, you can play these classics online as well. Most have mobile and tablet versions so you can play on the go. You can play friends, strangers from around the world or by yourself. It's not like the real thing, but, okay, it's still fun.

Spending an evening or afternoon with friends and family playing stock market board games is a great way to unwind and reconnect. The kids will get a little education while they're at it and adults will have just as much fun. There are a bunch of titles to choose from so check it out and break out the board.
