Relocating To Alameda County

By Madeleine Glazier

If you are about to relocate to a city or town in California's Alameda County, one thing you will never have to worry about is finding something fun to do. This county boasts an enormous amount of attractions, and there is a little something for everyone. Along with Contra Costa County, Alameda County encompasses a unique area called East Bay.

More than 1.5 million people live in Alameda County, which is the seventh most populous county in California. There are 14 incorporated cities in this county as well as other unincorporated towns and neighborhoods. Many of the cities were founded during the 19th century, including Oakland, the county's largest city, which was incorporated in 1852, just after the Gold Rush.

For fans of pro sports, Alameda County has a lot to offer. If you love baseball, the Oakland A's play their home games at Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum, as do the Oakland Raiders, the county's NFL franchise. Basketball lovers can enjoy games at Oracle Arena, home to the Golden State Warriors. There is a diverse array of collegiate sports to enjoy, as well, at the University of California, Berkeley, which also is located in the county.

Californians are well known outdoor enthusiasts, and Alameda County certainly caters to those who love spending their leisure hours out of doors. You can enjoy kayaking, boating, paddleboarding and sailing in the San Francisco Bay. There are hundreds of miles of great hiking and biking trails and more than 350 parks spread throughout the county. There are also more than 20 golf courses to enjoy.

Families with children will also find a number of fun attractions just for them. A drive to Fremont might include an afternoon at the Ardenwood Historic Farm, and Fremont also has a train museum and a water park. In Berkeley, you can enjoy the Lawrence Hall of Science, and in Oakland, the Chabot Space & Science Center is a highly popular attraction.

Head inland a bit and you'll discover the towns of Pleasanton and Livermore. Pleasanton is often named as one of the best places to live in the United States. It's also one of the wealthiest cities in the country. Nearby Livermore is known for its many vineyards and wineries, and many are open for tastings and tours throughout the year.
