Pheasant Hunting Lodges And Hunting Tips

By Cornelia White

For the past many years, pheasant hunting has been practiced by many. There are several reasons why people take part in the activity, including the bonding that it comes with and the fact that it strengthens friendships that already exist. The most important thing to remember is the choice of the right habitats, which will determine how successful one is. It is for this reason that pheasant hunting lodges become an important consideration for hunters.

With the right choice of lodge, it will be easier getting the birds and making a kill in the long run. Once the decision of the best location has been made, the next step is to know how to get the birds effectively. There are several useful tips in achieving this. Pheasants are able to find food from natural plants making up good cover. However, they will in most cases prefer cover which is closest to selected agricultural fields.

Consequently, they are more likely to be found in covers located close to food sources. This is especially so in the mornings and evenings when they are likely to be feeding. During such times, the crops act as dodging places whenever predators are spotted. Finding the best spots is very essential. This, coupled with hunting in areas with not so many hunters, will ensure success.

There are certain places that most hunters tend to disregard, among them heavy cover areas and those with groves. This comes very much in handy later during the season when there is increased pressure. At this time of the season, any birds that are still alive will be wary and thus nit easily spotted.

At around midday, the best places to hunt are ridgelines. At such time, roosters gather on hilltops and also on ridge lines to have a feel of the sun. There are chances that most hunters at such times will still be focusing on the cover.

The majority of these birds use crops for cover before they are picked. Hunters have the option of waiting until the crops are picked, or hunt the crops. As much as possible, one ought to ensure they are the first ones to hunt in fields that have been picked and adjacent areas. There is of course the option of asking for permission to do hunting in the particular crop before it is picked. The best time would however be once all the crops have been picked.

Using dogs to hunt makes things even easier. They have the ability to sniff around for the birds and trail them, something that cannot be done effectively by human beings. Unlike in the past, roosters no longer take to the air; they hide or run most of the time. This makes use of dogs something one cannot afford to do without. Hunters will most likely walk past several birds without noticing.

Thus when considering pheasant hunting lodges come very much in handy but hunters still have do a lot more. Hunting into the wind is very important for two reasons. To begin with, the birds are likely to hear you approaching whenever you walk into the wind. The second advantage is the fact that it gives the dogs better advantage.
