Build Or Buy A Tree House

By Jim Bruce

Educating yourself first on whether to Buy or Build a Tree House can save you a lot of unwanted frustration. It gives you some quality time to spend with the kids during those hot summer weekends and educates them on some basic woodworking skills. Begin with choosing a favorite design and move on to site location. But before attempting to construct or build any type of woodworking project make sure to follow some very important and needed guidelines. These guidelines will be covered in this article along with some basics everyone should know before deciding on whether to build or to buy a tree house or playhouse. First thing on the agenda is site selection. This is the major defining factor in choosing the proper design for your tree house because it dictates which template to best use. knowing what types of trees you have or don't have available will also help in your decision. How stable the ground is or how high off the ground it can be built are also some other issues to think about. So choosing a good site will narrow down what tree house or playhouse to incorporate into your backyard. Even finding a woodworking project that might be a little easier for that inexperienced craftsman can make everything go a lot smoother.

After a decision is finally made on the area going to be used. Choosing a design or style of house that everyone is comfortable with constructing can be made. When the design is chosen assessing what equipment and the type of materials needed would be next. Some greenhorns or novices might be too scared to use certain power tools which could result in possible accidents occurring. So knowing the difficulty level of the project before hand might also be a factor in your style choices.

A good example of the difference between a prefabricated set and a do-it-yourself one is when my buddy purchased his and I built ours. After my friend took two weekends to assemble the package he realized it was missing some crucial pieces to finish the job. He then tried to return the kit only to find out there were no more like it in storage and that his model was discontinued. Just to add fuel to the fire he then found out that the max load per child was very low. Where the one I built was easily customizable and could withstand all four of my kids. These are another couple of points to consider when learning how to construct your own tree house.

Finally with all these other steps done the cost can be calculated and checked to see if it is within the budget. Knowing what tools are needed and if they are available or have to be bought can also be a factor. What type of materials are going to be incorporated is another issue in the price. But if anyone was to compare the difference in price between a store bought prefabricated playhouse package and a Do-It-Yourself one they would see that building your own is always cheaper, easier to customize and more fun for the whole family.

Even with all the information given here it still does not seem that simple to construct your own tree house or playhouse. But now with the various tips and suggestions made here, making an educated decision on which tree house plans to implement will come a lot easier. The only thing missing is a full set of your very own plans showing how to build a tree house.

Our backyard started out with just a couple of play structures and ended up with everything imaginable. My children are in love with their backyard playground and can not wait to give more suggestions on what else to incorporate. Did you find all the tips on how to build a tree house useful? I always wanted to help people with the construction of their tree houses or playhouses and upgrade some of their basic woodworking skills. Getting the quality time with the loved ones is just all bonus!
